Right to information law session on 14th

ISLAMABAD – The Press Council of Pakistan (PCP) will hold an interactive session on “Implementing the True Vision of Right to Information Law” in Punjab province at Aiwan-e-Iqbal, Lahore on October 14.
The event is part of PCP efforts to sensitize masses, journalists, government officials, politicians and civil society to the essence of freedom of information. PCP Chairman Raja Shafqat Abbasi will preside while Punjab Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif will be the chief guest at the occasion.
Prominent media persons including senior editors, journalists, anchors, MNAs, MPAs, members of civil society and bureaucrats have been invited to share their comments about the legal and procedural framework incorporated in Punjab RTI Law 2013 with a view to ensure people’s access to all sorts of public information.
Guest speakers at this interactive session include Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rasheed, President APNS Sarmad Ali, Chief Editor Daily Pakistan Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami, President Supreme Court Bar Association Mian Asrar-ul-Haq, Secretary General (HRCP) I.A. Rehman, Editor Business Recorder Wamiq A. Zuberi, Dean and Professor Superior University Lahore Professor Dr. Mughees-ud-Din Sheikh, Nasir Zaidi from PFUJ, founding Director PDI Mukhtar Ahmed Ali and Coordinator for Coalition on Right to Information Mr. Zahid Abdullah.
Main purpose of this interactive session is to sensitize all concerned from masses to government officials to ensure fast track implementation of Punjab RTI Law 2013 in later and spirit.
With reference to people’s right to access to all sorts of public information under Article 19-A of the Constitution, PCP stands for maximum disclosure and minimum restrictions and the focus of all this effort is to build consensus between all stakeholders to make it a success story.
